What is NCLB?
The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)was introduced in 2001 to improve student achievement. It is the largest federal aid program for public schools.


Title I
Schools can be designated as "Title I" if certain criteria are met. This program provides additional funds for educating disadvantaged children. These funds are designated to assist children in meeting challenging academic standards, hiring quality teachers and increasing parent involvement.


    Title I dollars can be used to:
  • Provide after-school, summer or intersession programs
  • Train parents, teachers and other staff
  • Buy equipment and materials
  • Support parent involvement activities
  • Hire teachers, assistants, and specialists


    How N.W.E.C. has used Title I funds:
  • Purchased computers and a portable computer lab for K-3 classrooms
  • Hired certified teachers
  • Hired teachers' aides for the K-3 classrooms
  • Purchased and received training for K-3 reading intervention programs such as Accelerated Reader and Kidspiration


Future use of Title I funds:
We will be evaluating and changing our Title I programs as our student needs change. These decisions are made with the help of the Local Education Agency (LEA) and the suggestions from the School Community Counsel (SCC). Parents are an essential part of the Title I program.
