Families and Staff,
Unfortunately, not having enough students enrolled this school year our funding has suffered and because of this our budget is projected to have a shortfall of $178,000. A difficult decision was made to reduce the number of positions to help our budget. The people that are leaving have been part of our school for many years and have played an integral part in making our school so welcoming. We want to thank them for their service, and we appreciate them so much. Their last day of work will be December 1st and we plan on doing something special for them the last week they are with us, more details to come. Thank you, Bella, Ms. Kwan, Quique, Caty, Cristy, and Ms. Barbee. We wish you the best!

Desafortunadamente, no teniendo suficiente estudiantes este año escolar nos afectó monetariamente y revisando el presupuesto se predice que estaremos cortos $178,000. Fue una decisión difícil pero tuvimos que recortar 6 posiciones para ayudar con esto. Las personas que serán recortados han sido parte de nuestra escuela por muchos años y son íntegros a nuestra escuela. Queremos darles las gracias por su servicio, y los apreciamos mucho. El último día de trabajo será el 1 de diciembre y estamos organizando algo especial la última semana que estarán con nosotros. Gracias a Bella, Sra. Kwan, Quique, Caty, Cristy y Sra. Barbee. Le deseamos lo mejor!
Isabella “Bella” Mendoza
Ms. Bella is a New World Alumni turned employee. She has been part of our NWEC family for 3 years. She has grown to be a very effective and a great paraprofessional. Bella was very dependable and always willing to take on challenges at the school. Although she will be greatly missed, we wish her only the best in her future endeavors. Thank you, Bella for your great personality and showing genuine interest to the students.
Srta. Bella fue alumno convertida a empleada. Ella ha trabajado en NWEC por 3 años. Ha progresado como asistente de maestros y trabaja bien con los estudiantes. Uno puede depender en ella y siempre está disponible con cualquier cosa que se hace en la escuela. Aunque si la vamos a extrañar le deseamos lo mejor. Gracias Bella por siempre mostrar una bonita personalidad y mostrar interés personal a los estudiantes.
Ms. Sharon Kwan
Ms. Kwan has worked in schools for 15 years and NWEC has always been a special place for her because she has worked here for 6 years. She previously worked for our school and then returned last year as our Kindergarten teacher, and then this year she taught 3rd grade. She always has a smiling face and is a very positive person. The parents appreciate having great communication with her to help their children. Ms. Jacque Merrick will be replacing her role as the 3rd grade teacher due to recent budget adjustments. Thank you, Ms. Kwan for always supporting NWEC and caring so much for the students.
Sra. Kwan ha trabajado en las escuelas por 15 años y NWEC siempre ha sido un lugar muy especial para ella porque también tiene 6 años trabajando aquí con nosotros. Hace muchos años trabajo unos cuantos años con nosotros y luego regreso como la maestra de kínder y luego este año fue asignada dar las clases de 3er grado. Ella siempre tiene una sonrisa y es muy positive. Los padres aprecian mucho la comunicación con ella para ayudar a los estudiantes. La Sra. Jacque Merrick será la nueva maestra empezando el 4 de diciembre. Gracias Sra. Kwan por el apoyo a NWEC y mostrando cariño a los estudiantes.
Jesus “Quique” Madrigal
Jesus “Quique” was our evening custodian and became very helpful to maintain our school and ensuring that it was safe for the students. He has worked at NWEC for 2 years and was very meticulous with his work. We truly enjoyed having him here and will be truly missed. Thank you Quique!
Jesus “Quique” fue parte del personal de limpieza en las tardes y ayudo mucho en mantener a nuestra escuela y aseguro que los estudiantes estaban seguros. Trabajo en NWEC por 2 años y su trabajo lo hizo con mucho detalle. Agradecemos mucho que él estuvo aquí en nuestra escuela y los extrañaremos mucho. Gracias Quique!
Mrs. Catalina “Caty” Valenzuela
Caty had her 3 children attend NWEC and that encouraged to start volunteering at our school and loved just coming to help. Then a few years later she started working at NWEC and has worked in so many roles that have helped keep our school running for the past 10 years. She has worked as the Parent-Volunteer Coordinator, Receptionist, Attendance Clerk, and Manager of our Food Program. She also participated in many of the school event committees. As you can see Caty played an integral part in maintaining our school. We hope the best for her and thank you for everything you have done for the school, especially because you do it with a smile and an infectious laugh.
Los 3 hijos de Caty asistieron a nuestra escuela NWEC y eso la animo ser voluntaria y le encantaba venir y ayudar. Luego unos años después empezó a trabajar con nosotros y desde entonces ha tenido varios papeles durante sus 10 años trabajando aquí. Trabajo como la Coordinadora de los Voluntarios de Padres, Recepcionista, Departamento de Asistencia, y Manejadora del Programa de Comida. Ella también participaba con los diferentes eventos tomando parte de los comités que organizaban los eventos. Deseamos lo mejor para ella y gracias por todo lo que ella ha hecho por nuestra escuela, pero en especial porque siempre lo hacía con una sonrisa y una risa contagiosa.
Ms. Cristina “Cristy” Mendoza
Cristy had her 2 daughters attend NWEC and always supported our school as a parent. A few years later she started working at NWEC as the school nurse and has been here 12 years. Additional responsibilities were added, and she became even more integral to our school. Some of the roles are receptionist, records clerk, management of our grading system, managed our school building, and actively participated in many school event committees. Many of the students entrusted in her with medical and personal issues as well. Cristy you will be truly missed, and we appreciated all that you have done.
Las 2 hijas de Cristy asistieron a nuestra escuela NWEC y siempre ha apoyado la escuela como madre. Unos años después ella empezó a trabajar en NWEC como la enfermera de la escuela y ya tiene 12 años aquí. Responsabilidades extras se agregaron desde entonces, y con más razón tomo un papel integral a nuestra escuela. Trabajo como Recepcionista, Departamento de Mantenimiento de Récords, Departamento de Mantenimiento del Edificio, y Manejadora del Programa de Calificaciones. También tomo parte en varios comités que se formaron para organizar los diferentes eventos. Muchos de los estudiantes le tenían mucha confianza con asuntos personales y médicas. Te vamos a extrañar mucho Cristy y apreciamos todo lo que has hecho por nuestra escuela.
Mrs. Angelica “Angie” Barbee
Mrs. Barbee, aka Ms. Angie, has been the longest reigning employee at NWEC. She has “done it all” working at NWEC for over 20 years. She has taught Kindergarten for 9 years. Mrs. Barbee has also worked as a paraprofessional for many years and has managed the food program as well. Many can say that she is like the grandmother of the school, and she is very respected by the students. Thank you, Angie, for working so hard with the staff and students, and showing your loyalty to the school no matter what issues we confronted. We can’t thank you enough for your continued support all these years. We wish you the best!
Sra. Barbee, también conocida como Ms. Barbee, es la empleada que tiene más años trabajando en nuestra escuela. Lo ha hecho todo en NWEC en los más de 20 años. Ella fue la maestra de Kínder por 9 años. La Sra. Barbee también ha trabajado como asistente de maestros por muchos años y ha ayudado con el programa de comida también. Muchos dicen que es la abuela de la escuela, y los estudiantes la respetan mucho. Gracias, Angie por su duro trabajo con el personal y los estudiantes, y también por mostrar lealtad a la escuela durante tiempos buenas y difíciles. Le agradecemos mucho por todo y por el apoyo que le ha dado a las familias y la escuela. Te deseamos lo mejor!
